LO.4: Legal Issues

Legal Issues

There are several legal issues when it comes to the production of a television advertisement. First of all, I would like to state that in my television advertisement for Auriga Jewellry, I had permission from Managing Director, Richard Hoare and the people visiting the shop to record them for my advertisement. They were pleased and happy to be filmed and gave a very authentic job, probably due to the fact that they weren't actors but instead real people, just going about their day into the shop and didn't mind being filmed for a few moments.

Aside from that, continuing on with the legal issues, there are several when it comes to the production of a television advertisement. One of the first legal issues you can fact is the truth in your advertising, if you are producting an advertisement that isn't truthful and very false, you could be selling products and doing illegal acts, having people being mislead in your company and it's products and get you in a lot of trouble.

There is also the legal issue of filming children and having children involved. My Auriga Advertisement was catering to young and old people and not necessarily children, if children were involved and decided to walk into the shop, I would have to ask the parents of the child and the child itself whether they would like to take part in it but if they refused and I filmed the child, that could cause a lot of problems and be the illegal use of filming a child or children.

Finally, some legal issues you can find in television advertising is more subtle such as subliminal advertising. These messages or techniques you find are quite useful but they can used for the wrong reasons. They can be legitimate tactics but they can convey a wrong message and lead you into purchasing harmful products but more in my case with jewellry, cheap products they can easily break and just look flashy. It is a little different concerning the legal issues of producing a television advert for a jewellry company since typically, people will walk into the shops to examine the jewellry before buying but the fact that the advertisement can still convey a wrong message and have illegal use of footage, whether that be of children, private areas and other companies still stands.
