Commission
Activity Sheet 1
When meeting a client, how might the practitioner ensure they understand precisely what is required?
How might meetings be recorded?
When meeting a client as the practitioner, these meetings might be recorded by voice recording. Notes are most certainly going to wrote down but depending on the location and security procures, a video recording might take place.
How might the practitioner go about generating ideas?
A practitioner might generate ideas by looking at influences, researching in general. Gathering ideas from discussions with people or being more independent by creating and planning with mind maps, spider diagrams and such to grasp an idea of generating ideas. Discussion with the practitioner on what they want is a big boost too as it’s more specific, if you know what the task is or what it’s going to be, you can be more direct and specific about your way of thinking, for example if you asked to produce a piece of music of the rock genre, you could look at other rock bands, rock instrumental pieces and more.
What information would need to be included in the proposal?
Information includes in a proposal can differ depending on the piece of work you are asked or thinking of producing. You need to think of the piece of work at its core, for example, if you are going to produce a documentary, the practitioner would need to think about where it is the target audience it’s aimed at. Content and length is another thing, the amount of time you are going to spend on the project might be included in a proposal
Why is it important to estimate the cost of the work?
It is important to estimate the cost of the work since a practitioner, whilst good or great; they can think into the sky too much and believe they can complete anything. You need to have an estimate of the cost of the work as nothing is truly unlimited. The practitioner could produce something that the client can’t simply afford or doesn’t have the resources to provide to continue production. If you have an estimate however, you can plan towards that, consider what resources you are going to purchase at what quality, what quantity. You can think about how much time you have on your hands for each element as well.
How might the practitioner ensure that the work comes in on budget?
The practitioner would have to be realistic. They would have to consider elements such a timescales with films because the more you need the record, the more expensive it can get with purchasing more tapes, cameras and so forth, but if they want to ensure, it would be best to plan out costs. Have an idea before going in how much equipment will cost, how much time it will take and so forth to ensure it comes in on budget.
How might the practitioners receive feedback on their work?
Practitioners might receive feedback on their work by receiving an e-mail, presenting it to their client and asked for written, recorded feedback that they could look back and work on, however these are more one on one engagement. A practitioner might be more expansive and ask people in the public eye, friends, and family and so on. To be more specific, if they are producing a piece of rock music, they might go to ask other rock bands what they think, what they can improve and so forth and be more outside the box and not tied to the client on his own.
How might they use feedback to improve their practice when working on future commissions?
Practitioners might use feedback to improve their practice for future commissions as not all practitioners are given or want feedback. If they are given feedback however, they can use it for future commissions by comparing the product or task they were issued and seeing how well they did with time. How the practitioner did well with costs and social issues. They can reflect and review on it and be able to work harder and more effectively for future commissions.
